PANAMA TWO-YEAR PROVISIONAL RESIDENCE FOR DEPENDENT OF A PERMANENT RESIDENT

Panamanian Immigration Law allows that a citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident for two (2) or more years may request residence for dependents.

Dependents are defined as:

1. Foreign spouses,
2. Children under 18 years of age,
3. Relatives with a disability,
4. Parents,
5. A minor who the residents proved to have custody rights or guardianship.
6. Dependents between 18 and 25 may qualify for this visa, provided they are full-time students at a Panamanian University and under the economic dependence of the foreign resident.

Requirements:

1. Notarized Power of Attorney and Application. Our office takes care of this.
2. Seven (7) photographs.
3. A copy of each page of the passport must be taken. Our office takes care of notarizing it.
4. For any dependent over 18 years old, we will need a criminal record from the country where you have resided for the last two (2) years. This record should be apostilled or authenticated by the Panamanian Consulate in the country of its issuance.
5. Translation of the criminal backgrounds.
6. Certificate of good health. Our office will assist you with this.
7. Certified Check for USD 250 in favor of the National Treasury. Our office will assist you with that.
8. Certified Check for USD 800.00 in favor of the National Immigration Service. Our office will assist you with that.
9. Affidavit Form of Personal Background from the Panamanian resident. The client must fill this out.
10. Proof of kinship, such as a Marriage Certificate or Birth Certificate (valid only for six months) duly translated into Spanish.
11. Notarized responsibility letter of the principal applicant assuming responsibility for all the dependents’ expenses, including repatriation expenses. Our office will assist you with this.
12. Notarized copy of the permanent residence card. Our office will assist you with that.
13. Authenticated copy by the Civil Registration of the Panamanian ID. Our office will assist you with that.
14. Proof of economic solvency may be accredited by one of the following:
    1. Bank reference letter, with a balance of no less than four average figures.

The following applicants are not obligated to pay for the repatriation deposit:

1. The religious (priests, ministers, nuns).
2. Those who apply for a student visa.
3. The person that applies for the visa is married to Panamanian.
4. The minors of 12 years.
5. A person established by special laws.

PROCESS STAGES

First Visit to Panama: Please plan a trip for ten business days.

Day 1: Meeting at our office

• The applicant must present all the original documents for the visa application to our office.
• Apply for a bank account if you will open an account to prove financial solvency.
• Visit the health center to process the health certificate.
• If the papers' revision is in compliance with immigration law, we will process your passport registration at the Immigration Office.

Day 2: Passport Registration

We will register your passport at the NIS.

Requirements:

• two passport pictures,
• a copy of the passport, a copy of the seal of entry to Panamá,
• a copy of the boarding pass,
• If a student, a copy of the registration receipts in a Panamanian education center is required.

Day 3: Visa Application Submission

• Once the application is submitted, Immigration will grant the applicant a temporary card valid for six months and a multiple entry and exit visa. This card allows you to live in Panama while your visa is processing, and the Multiple Entry and Exit Permit will enable you to enter and exit Panama.

Day 4: Photograph at Immigration Office

• Visit NIS to take the photograph for your process card.

Note:

• If you do not stay in Panama, you can leave after obtaining the Multiple Entry and Exit Permit.
• If you stay abroad and overdue your six-month multiple entry and exit visa, the government will charge you a USD 2000 fine.

Second Visit to Panama - Approximately six (6) months after the application is submitted.

If your visa has been approved, the NIS will issue a two-year temporary resident Resolution and your new residence card.
