Panama Student Permit

TEMPORARY PERMITS FOR EDUCATIONAL REASONS

The Panama Student allows the applicant to legalize their immigration status for educational purposes only, as long as they attend a regular school. Consequently, during their studies, they are forbidden to work in Panama except for the professional practices and courses required by the educational center.

This permit is valid for one (1) year, extendable yearly up to six (6) years. Before the six-year term expires, students must explore other Panama visa options to acquire legal residency in Panama.

To apply for this permit, a foreign person must be at least 18 years old and studying full-time in regular public or private schools of all levels (primary, secondary, university, master's, postgraduate, and doctoral programs) recognized by the Ministry of Education.

Those interested in this permit must enroll during the day.

PANAMA STUDENT PERMIT REQUIREMENTS ARE:

General Requirements:

  • Five card-size pictures
  • A certified copy of the entire passport by a Panamanian notary.
  • Apostilled Criminal record. In countries where no such document is issued, the applicant must provide proof or certification from a diplomatic agent or consul of his country accredited by the Government of Panama, where it is stated that his country does not issue such a certificate, along with a statement affidavit made before a notary public stating that you have no criminal record. (Only for adults.)
  • Medical certificate of good health from a Panamanian practitioner.
  • USD$ 250.00 to the national treasury in royalties from the application of a migration category
  • USD $ 800.00 to the national migration and repatriation deposit.
  • Affidavit of personal background.

Specific requirements are:

  • Admission letter to the educational institution.
  • Proof of registration fee payment and the original copy
  • Certification of the study center, containing the applicant's general information, the course duration, the shift attended, and the subjects or subjects enrolled, according to the study plan enrolled.
  • Certification from the university, in case the course is taught at night.

Proof of economic solvency:

To prove economic solvency, the applicant must submit any of the following;

  1. Document proving that the student is the holder of a scholarship.
  2. Proof of financing.
  3. Bank letter in favor of the applicant or the person in charge, indicating solvency to cover the study and general expenses.

If a third person is responsible for the applicant, the applicant must submit:

  1. Responsibility letter
  2. Certified copy of the responsible person's ID.

If the applicant is a minor:

  • Apostilled copy of his/her birth certificate.
  • Written authorization from the parent on behalf of the sponsoring resident if neither of the parents resides in Panama.

Requirements to apply for an extension of the permit:

The applicant must submit the above requirements except the Criminal Record Certificate and the checks. In addition, the applicant must submit the officially approved credits from the previous year.

Important Note:

All documents issued abroad must be legalized through the Panama Consulate or apostilled.

Legal Fee:

USD 1,000.00 per application.

The fee does not include any reconsideration or appeal.

The fee does not include expenses.
